What is a Specialist Family Physician?
Specialist Family Physicians are also known as primary care specialists.
After completing a medical degree, internship and community service, they
complete an additional four-year specialist training programme in Family
Medicine, similar to other recognised specialties such as Internal Medicine,
Paediatrics and Psychiatry.
Their training spans multiple disciplines including children’s health,
obstetrics and gynaecology, adult medicine, infectious diseases, mental
health, surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthetics, ENT, dermatology and
ophthalmology.
Family Physicians are experts in comprehensive, person-centred healthcare and
are trained to diagnose, treat and coordinate care for patients of all ages.
What does a specialist consultation offer?
Our consultations typically range between 30 and 60 minutes,
depending on your healthcare needs.
We believe that understanding your story is essential to delivering excellent
care. Our consultations provide sufficient time to take a comprehensive
history, perform a detailed assessment, educate patients and families, and
coordinate care with other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
Do you accept medical aid?
Our practice is not contracted to medical aid schemes and we do
not submit claims directly.
Consultations are payable on completion of your appointment. We provide a
fully itemised invoice with the appropriate ICD-10 codes, allowing you to
submit your claim to your medical aid for possible reimbursement according to
your benefits.
Who should see a Specialist Family Physician?
Our practice provides specialist care for patients of all ages.
We have particular expertise in caring for children with special healthcare
needs, developmental and mental health assessments, dedicated adolescent
health services, and adults living with multiple chronic medical conditions.
Patients with two or more chronic diseases are encouraged to have a
comprehensive specialist review at least once a year to optimise their overall
health and long-term management.
Do I need a referral letter?
No. You are welcome to make an appointment directly with our practice without
a referral.
Should additional investigations or specialist input be required, we will
coordinate your care and guide you through each step of the process.
How do I book an appointment?

Do you offer home visits?
Yes. Home visits may be available for patients who are unable to attend the
practice because of frailty, illness or reduced mobility.

whether a home visit is the most appropriate option.
